Laser programming Day day one.. Note that the trusses move over the stage.... they morph to different positions as the show progresses.  Posted by Picasa

Sunday is laser day.....

We are still in technical rehearsal mode right now. We sit down in lakeland for about two weeks as we gradually add in components to the show. Everything is built and programmed as we go. Once the show is built and programmed we then hit the road. it is the same show every night, built the same, run the same and played the same. there is an advantage to this, we are only doing small variations on the same theme and we are never reinventing the wheel. This is very important since we have enough work to do as it is, the goal is to never complicate it.

Today we started programming base movements into the lasers.

Look at the picture below.

Down south and livin it...

Here is a quick note from Florida. Yes, Florida. We are in Lakeland, waiting for Wilma to do her worst so that we can get back to work.

I can say two things about Florida compared to NYC: 1: it is much warmer here 2: The beer is cheaper

I am sure that things will be more interesting over the next few days...

Last trip of the season...

Well, the weekend finally brought some great weather here in NYC. The sun came back, it cooled down a bit and fall became wonderful again.

We had guests here in NYC for the last few days. We walked in Central Park, we took a look at the skating rink as they were getting it ready to flood for ice. It was crowded, with everyone getting out for a walk in the fall sun.

After our time in Central park, we walked down 5th Ave. We took the time to look at expensive jewelry in Tiffany’s and Co. We saw Rockefeller plaza, and checked out all the tourists skating.

After that, we took our guests for one of our favorite weekend pastimes in NYC. We caught the water taxi on the Westside along the Hudson river. We took it south around the island of Manhattan, all the way to the first stop in Brooklyn. This trip takes about 40 minutes, stopping a various places along the trip. It is a unique perspective of the island, one where you can look at the buildings from afar. It is away from the hustle and bustle, the horns and the crowds. Only the sound of the wind drowning out the noise of the engines. It is a different perspective on Gotham City, one where you can really take in the size of the buildings.

We got off at the first stop in Brooklyn, and after a short stop for some baileys and coffee, we walked up and back into Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge.

This is not an expensive thing to do.. The water taxi is cheap, and the only real cost was the coffee and Baileys (which is optional). But it is worth it...

Now the water taxi stops running for the season... I hope we get to do it again next year.

Well beyond the day...

It is Friday - Jennifer arrives in 4 hours. Can't wait.

In case you missed it. Ottawa Senators beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in an OT shoot-out Wednesday evening on the season opener of the NHL regular season.

I would like to thank all the nice people at the Union bar (In Union sqare - NYC) for allowing us the opportunity to change one of the TV's from Baseball to Hockey. I would also like to thank the NHL network for broadcasting all the Canadian games for free on opening night.

I would like to thank Muriel, the bartender for being attentive without interruption during the games. we had our priorities and she let us get on with it.

Lastly, I would like to thank The Toronto Maple Leafs for losing graciously to my team, the Ottawa Senators.

And the puck drops here....

First day of the NHL Hockey season. Jeff and I are off very shortly to find a bar and convince them to play the Toronto Ottawa game. This will be harder than it sounds, as we are in NYC and those are two Canadian teams.

We think we have an in though, Jeff knows this really cool bartender at a place that has TVs but is more well known as a drinking bar not a sports bar. We are gonna tip well then ask... I would even consider begging if need be as I do not want to end up back at the office listening to a live webcast of the game instead of watching it...

But needs dictate actions and in a pinch we will be listening to the game on computer speakers...

Getting out for one

Well, I am glad to say that it is only 3 more nights before my wife joins me in NYC. We have been apart for too long (4 weeks) and it sucks. I cannot wait for my best friend to get here so that we can hang out together and ignore everyone else. Is that selfish? Am I cheesy? too bad....

And the sun came out...

Hello all.

It is Sunday afternoon and I am once again in the office. Just have a few things to sort out before I head out and enjoy the sunny afternoon.

I am pleased; we have less than a week before Jennifer (wife) joins me in NYC. I will have a lot less free time when she gets here and I am sooo happy about that. It sucks when we have to be apart because of work, but hey if we are going to pay the mortgage, then we sometimes have to make sacrifices. (doesn't mean we have to like em)

We had a good night on Friday. Compared and contrasted various bottles of non-filtered cold sake. It is an acquired taste, but once you gotten used to the texture and flavor it becomes a bit of an adventure… Then again, it seems that I appreciated each glass more as the night went on (could it have been the alcohol talking). After departing the bar slightly tipsy, we went to a dodgy bar for a nightcap. Our friend bought a round and it was pabst blue ribbon in a can. Almost tasted as good as the sake (now I know I was tipsy). …

As noted on the posting below this one, Saturday was a scheduled hang over day (albeit a mild one thank goodness).

Gotta finish work so that I can get out and enjoy the rest of this day.

Ciao.
